About Us

Our Society

The Oxford Buddhist Society was set up to preserve Theravāda Buddhist teachings and practices for the sake of human well-being. In fact, it throws light on the Three Cornerstones in Buddhist monasticism, viz., Pariyatti (learning and understanding of doctrinal teachings), Paṭipatti (keeping good moral conduct and behaviour), and Paṭivedha (penetration and attainment of Nibbāna). Our theme, with reference to Milindapañhapāḷi (The Questions of King Milinda) in Khuddakanikāya (The Collection of Little Texts), ‘Nisammakārī’ lucidly refers to the meaning, ‘acting considerately’; this makes a recipe for a calming, relaxing, and peaceful mind that carries you into subtle wisdom in life. Above all, our society thoroughly focuses on Bhāvanā or cultivation of mental culture in human society.
