About Us
Our Vision
The Oxford Buddhist Society was established to preserve Theravāda Buddhist tradition and philosophical discourses that echoed through the ages since 564 BC within the context of British culture.
Our vision is as follows:
● To provide a vital ground, where anyone can cultivate moral conduct (sīla), mental concentration (samādhi), and wisdom (paññā) in everyday life;
● To make a prominent platform for learning, practising, and researching Buddhist teachings for the sake of esoteric happiness in life;
● To offer multiple series of Bhāvanā or mindfulness meditation for the societal welfare in the wake of solidity, stability, and transparency of the mind;
● To assist everyone around the world suffering from many psychological disorders such as stress, depression, anxiety, frustration, etc., through developing mental culture;
● To be a Kalyana-mitta (spiritual friend) for the whole of humanity, whilst spreading the noble message of peace and wisdom.
All programmes will be determined and led by the monastic monks, regular practitioners, researchers, and scholars. The Management Committee’s duty is to assist and support the society to keep our mission realised.
Formalised in July 2023.
