Moments from the Monastery Garden
A Reflection on Mindfulness in Nature
A flower opening to the morning sun, a bee resting gently upon a blossom, a bird singing from the branches, or a squirrel passing quietly through the garden these simple moments can become gentle invitations to pause and be mindful. Within the monastery garden, nature offers a quiet space for reflection. Each season brings change, each flower blooms for a time, and every living thing follows its own natural rhythm.
Nature does not cling to its beauty. It simply blooms, flourishes, changes, and passes away.
In these ordinary moments, there is a simple but profound reminder of the Buddha’s teaching on impermanence. Beauty is not diminished because it does not last; rather, its changing nature encourages us to appreciate each moment with greater awareness.
The garden quietly invites us to be fully present to notice what is here, to cherish without clinging, and to allow each experience to arise and pass in its own time. Through mindful attention, even the smallest moments in nature can become opportunities for peace, gratitude, and deeper understanding.
May we continue to find moments of stillness and wisdom in the world around us. 🪷
